THE PURPOSE

Hunt 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo wheelset은 장거리 울트라 레이스 대회(long-distance ultra races)와 수일간의 바이크패킹 어드벤처(multi-day bikepacking adventures)를 위해 개발된 휠셋으로 SON 28 Dynamo generator hub를 통해 라이트와 전자기기에 전원을 공급하여 레이스가 끝날 때까지 전원에 문제가 없도록 해준다. 대회 우승경력이 있는 Hunt 40 Carbon Gravel Race wheelset을 바탕으로 HUNT 선수들이 the Traka, Badlands, Unbound XL와 같은 gravel ultra events에 참가할 수 있고 경량의 카본 휠셋으로 업그레이드를 원하는 어드벤처 라이더들을 위해서 개발되었다. 25mm 내부림폭과 40mm 높이의 카본림은 29mm 이상의 현대적인 그래블 광폭 타이어들에 적합하여 공기역학, 낮은 구름저항, 향상된 접지력을 제공한다. H_Cyclo technology을 통해서 완전히 재활용된 카본섬유와 레진을 사용하여 제작되어 목적에 부합한 성능과 함께 향상된 지속가능성을 가진 휠셋이다. • H-CYCLO RIMS: 완전히 재사용되는 에폭시 레진 기술인 H_Cyclo를 통해 카본 섬유를 재사용하여 수명을 다한 카본복합물이 레진이 카본섬유로부터 분리되는 과정을 통해서 새로운 활용이 가능하게 된다. 이를 통해 카본섬유와 레진 모두 현재로는 최고 기술인 카본섬유 열경화 가공과정(thermoset carbon fibre molding process)에 사용되어 thermo-plastic resin systems과 같은 기존의 제작 방법과 비교하여 보다 높은 무게대비 강성을 실현할 수 있다. CleaVER라는 화학요법을 통해서 카본섬유와 레진을 분리하여 쓰레기나 공해물질 발생없이 더 작은 새로운 카본 복합체를 만들게 된다. 2차 생산물들은 새로운 카본 섬유의 추가없이 이루어져서 현격하게 생산 부산물을 줄여준다. 이 공법은 대형 유리섬유 윈드터빈 블레이드를 재활용하기 위해 만들어진 것으로 재활용되는 레진은 카본적층에 구조적인 결합과 무게대비강성에 어떠한 악영향을 주지않아 정밀한 고성능 카본림을 제작하는데 유용하다.

SON DYNAMO

• SONDELUX | HIGHLY EFFICIENT, FASTER AND LOWER WEIGHT - 대부분의 다이나모 허브는 타운 바이크들을 위해 디자인되어있는 반면 드랍바 로드나 그래블 바이크경우 빠른 속도를 내는 자전거이다. 구형인 할로겐 벌브대비 LED 라이트의 상당히 향상된 효율성은 Exposure Revo 라이트와 같은 경우 불과 10mph 속도에서도 800 lumen의 놀라운 밝기를 실현한다. THE PURPOSE

The 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo wheelset is designed for long-distance ultra races and multi-day bikepacking adventures, featuring a SON 28 Dynamo generator hub to power your lights and electronics, allowing you to ride till you’re finished, not when your lights and GPS run out. Based on our race-winning 40 Carbon Gravel Race wheelset, we built this wheelset for HUNT athletes tackling gravel ultra events like the Traka, Badlands, and Unbound XL, as well as for adventure riders seeking a lightweight carbon upgrade wheel. The 40mm deep rims with 25mm internal width suit modern gravel and wide road tires (29mm and wider), offering aerodynamic efficiency, low rolling resistance, and improved traction. Made from fully recyclable carbon fiber and resin using H_Cyclo technology, blending purpose-built performance with improved sustainability. The 28 spoke J-bend build with brass spoke nipples and our H_Ratchet 40T DBL rear hub offers quick engagement, strength and reliability without sacrificing responsiveness or ride quality.

FEATURES

H-CYCLO RIMS: Fully recyclable and reusable epoxy resin technology, H_Cyclo, allows HUNT to recycle and reuse the carbon fibre from this wheelset. Utilizing this technology, end-of-life carbon composites undergo a process where the resin is separated from the fibres, allowing them to be utilized into new applications. UD carbon fibre finish with matt white contrasting graphics. H_Cyclo technology enables the recycling of both the carbon fibre materials and the epoxy resin used in the thermoset carbon fibre molding process, which is the most mature carbon fibre manufacturing process available for bicycle rims and components, generally yielding a higher strength-to-weight ratio when compared to other carbon production methods such as thermo-plastic resin systems. This may well change over time as technologies mature, but for now thermoset is the leader in strength-to-weight ratio for bicycle rims and frames. Using a chemical solution called CleaVER, the carbon fibres and epoxy resin are separated using heat and agitation, so that both components can be re-used to create new (smaller format) carbon components without the by-products of waste solvents or pollutants. Secondary products can be constructed without the addition of virgin carbon fibres, significantly reducing the production emissions required. Originally created to enable the recycling of large format glass fibre wind turbine blades, the recyclable resin has no impact on the structural integrity or strength-to-weight ratio of the carbon layup, making the technology ideal for precision, high-performance rims. HUNT will cover the collection of product at end-of-life, making the process seamless and no-cost for riders, should their wheels become unusable in an accident or crash.

SON 28 DYNAMO: Designed for smooth reliability and longevity, SON hub dynamos have been an undisputed benchmark for many years. The generator is precisely adapted to the intended use and efficiently powers headlights, rear lights or charges devices and power banks while riding, even at low speed. Hub Shell: aluminium 6082 T6. Sealing: alloy dust shields, rubber lip seals and pressure compensation system. Supplied with: 2x Spade Connector with Shrink wrap cable protectors. Warranty: 5 years. Center-lock disc mount. 

REAR HUB: HUNT H_Ratchet 40T DBL JB Hub. 40-Tooth ratchet rings on floating carrier, offering quick 9˚ engagement. Machined spoke flanges for better bracing angles. H_Ceramik freehub body reinforcement coating provides excellent durability and protects against cassette sprocket damage to the freehub often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies. 6066 T6 heat-treated aluminium alloy hub shell. Center-lock disc mount.

FREEHUB BODY: Featuring HUNT’s H_Ratchet double-sided system (with two floating ratchet rings), with a 40-tooth ratchet ring resulting in quick 9-egree engagement. The freehub benefits from H_Ceramik anti-bite coating to ensure maximum durability. Durability is a theme for HUNT, and so all our freehub bodies have Steel Spline Insert re-enforcements to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.

• Maximum Rider Weight I 145kgs is the upper recommended rider weight limit for these wheels. Please include the weight of any luggage in your total rider weight when choosing the correct wheels. If a rider is over 120Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use minimum 25mm tires at max 100psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset. We are cyclists ourselves and do of course go above and beyond to offer excellent service if you ever do experience any issues. • SONDELUX | HIGHLY EFFICIENT, FASTER AND LOWER WEIGHT - Drop-bar road and adventure bikes are designed for going fast, whereas many dynamo hubs were designed for town bikes. The rapid advancement and incredible efficiency of LED lighting compared to older halogen bulbs has meant that lights such as the Exposure Revo (available as a package with these wheels - please click here) would run at its whopping 800 lumen output at just 10mph. SON realised that by using a smaller/lighter generator, they could reduce drag by an impressive 20% and still achieve the 3 watt / 6 volt output (800 lumens on the Revo light) at just 11-12mph. Even at 10mph, you will get upwards of 500 lumens from the Exposure Revo light! The super-fast SONdelux is the result of this innovative thinking... 20% better rolling resistance and lower weight, only 395g (the SON28 weighs 430g).

• SON PRESSURE COMPENSATION SYSTEM - All dynamos heat slightly during operation and then cool, the cooling of air in the hub body of most dynamo hubs can cause lowering air pressure inside the hub. This lower air pressure can lead to suction of water through the bearing seals significantly reducing the life of hub bearings. However, SON dynamos feature their unique Pressure Compensation System which consists of an air flow port on the axle cap and inside the axle (as shown below) and an air reservoir tube.
• SON DYNAMO PRESSURE COMPENSATION PORT - The SON Pressure Compensation System allows air pressure to be equalised, thus extending bearing life to a huge 50,000-100,000 kms. The tube (shown below) is long enough that water doesn't reach the end, and when the dynamo heats up again air pressure increases and any air and water is forced back out of the axle end of the tube preventing damage.

Exposure Lights tried, tested and much loved dynamo powered light. Providing up to 800 lumens of power that is only limited by your endurance, it is the new must have for adventure riding, touring and commuting. Plus it's manufactured just down the road from us here in Sussex, UK. The Exposure Revo Dynamo light weighs a feathery 110g as it needs no battery, so as a package the light and hub weigh much the same as a normal hub and battery powered light, without that "oh, my lights run out of charge... I can't ride" nightmare.
