THE PURPOSE

현대 로드 레이싱의 요구를 위해 개발된 Hunt 5AM Limitless Wheelset은 프로 펠로톤에서 현재 사용중인 휠들을 능가하는 all-round speed를 실현하고자 하였으며 최고 수준의 로드 레이싱에서 노골적인 성능의 새로운 벤치마크를 세우고자 개발된 휠셋이다. 10년간의 휠 개발, 소재 개발 그리고 공기역학과 실전 테스트를 기반으로 Hunt 5AM Limitless Wheelset은 최고의 성능을 위한 하나의 완전한 시스템으로 접근하면서 개발되었으며 각 부품들은 HUNT 5-Stage Aero Development process을 통해서 연구되고 검증되어 실험실의 데이타를 넘어서 실제 레이싱 상황에서 보다 빠른 휠셋으로 구현되도록 하였다.  

TECHNOLOGY

헌트 자체 개발팀에 의해 개발된 HUNT 5AM Limitless Wheelset은 휠 디자인에 있어 라이더를 우선하는 접근법을 채택한 최신 기술을 보여준다. 라이더가 자전거에 탄 실제 상황에서 휠셋이 어떻게 성능을 발휘하는지 이해하기 위해서 디자인된 새로운 테스트 프로토콜로 얻어진 수 년간의 공기역학 학습을 결합하여 단순히 하나의 테스트 방법에 의존하지 않고 5단계의 공기역학 개발과정을 활용하였다. 이는 각 단계 별로 상이한 질문들에 답을 하고 휠셋 성능에 대한 전체적인 이해도를 완성하는 과정으로 이러한 여러 계층의 개발 과정과 헌트 특허인 Limitless Width Aero Technology를 통해서 공기역학과 무게 사이의 최적의 균형을 확보할 수 있는 성능을 최대화하여 60mm 이하에서 가장 빠른 휠셋을 개발하고자 하였다. 아래 WHITE PAPER를 다운로드받으시면 자세한 SCOPE ARTECH 6, ROVAL RAPID CLX2 & CLX3, EVNE 4.5 PRO, RESERVE 57/64, DTSIWSS 55 ARC DICUT DB 등과 공기역학성능을 비교한 자료를 확인 가능합니다.

전륜의 경우 공기를 가장 먼저 접하기에 드래그(drag)를 줄일 수 있는 가장 큰 기회가 있는 곳으로 림의 높이와 폭을 증가시키면서 동시에 스포크 수를 줄이고 히든 니플을 적용하고 허브 두께를 줄임으로써 회전 드래그 (rotational drag)를 최소화하여 드래그를 최대한 줄이고자 하였다. 이를 통해서 가장 중요한 전륜에서 측풍 안전성의 회손없이 공기역학 효율성을 최대화하였다. 후륜의 경우 전륜과 프레임과 라이더를 통과하며 혼란스러운 공기흐름(turbulent airflow)을 만나게 되기에 후륜의 공기역학적 이득이 전체적인 시스템 차원에서 보면 덜 중요하게 됩니다. 이러한 전체적인 판단하에 후륜의 공기역학 효율 향상은 무게를 줄이고 파워 전달력을 최대화함으로써 얻을 수 있기에 후륜의 림은 더 낮고 좁은 림을 적용하고 추가적인 스포크를 체결함으로써 반응성을 향상시키고 와트당 파워 전달력을 향상시켰습니다.

THE PURPOSE

Engineered for the demands of modern racing, the 5AM Limitless delivers a level of all-round speed beyond any wheel currently raced in the pro peloton, setting a new benchmark for outright performance on fast and rolling terrain at the highest level of the sport. Drawing on ten years of wheel development, materials innovation and an evolving process of aerodynamic and real-world testing, the 5AM Limitless was created using a complete system approach to performance. Each component of the wheel system was engineered, vetted and validated through HUNT’s 5-Stage Aero Development process, to make riders faster in actual racing conditions, not just on paper.

TECHNOLOGY

Designed by HUNT’s in-house engineering team, the 5AM Limitless represents the latest evolution of our rider-first approach to wheel design. Combining years of aerodynamic learning with new testing protocols, designed to understand how wheels perform in the real world, with a rider on the bike. Rather than relying on a single testing method, HUNT leverages a 5-Stage Aero Development process, where each stage answers different questions and builds a complete picture of performance. Through this layered development process and patented Limitless Width Aero Technology, performance is maximised to achieve the optimal balance between aerodynamics and weight, delivering the fastest wheel system available under 60mm.

The front wheel runs in clean air, offering the greatest opportunity to reduce drag. By increasing rim depth and width, while minimising rotational drag through reduced spoke count, hidden spoke nipples and low profile hub design, we maximise aerodynamic efficiency where it matters most without compromising crosswind stability.

The rear wheel encounters turbulent airflow, downstream of the front wheel, frame, and rider movement, making rear wheel aerodynamic gains less important in the context of the complete system. Rear wheel efficiency is achieved by reducing weight and maximising power transfer. A shallower, narrower rim paired with additional spokes delivers enhanced responsiveness and efficient transmission of every watt to the road.

• ADVANCED CARBON STRUCTURE: 5AM Limitless rims are made using a blend of T700, T800, and T1000 UD carbon fibres, with high-modulus Mitsubishi PyrofilHR4012M - a material more common in aerospace, aviation and motorsport applications. This blend offers lateral and sidewall strength, enabling low weight without compromising durability or trueness. The high gloss finish resists dirt build up and helps minimise aerodynamic skin drag.
• TI_UD VONOA CARBON SPOKES (AERO DRAG REDUCTION SPOKES): The top of the wheel moves through the fork at twice the speed of the bike, meaning small design features add up to large aero gains. We have combined a slim frontal profile with elongated bladed shape for improved aerodynamic efficiency. • HIDDEN SPOKE NIPPLES: Internal spoke nipples further reduce aerodynamic and rotational drag across the wheel system.

MAX RIDER WEIGHT: All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 120 kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 100 kg then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
