WIND TUNNEL TEST

Hunt 40 Limitless Gravel Aero project을 완결을 위해 HUNT engineering team은 2년을 투자하여 보다 광폭의 그래블 타이어들에 적합한 림 형상 최적화와 전체 무게를 감량하면서도 최대한의 공기역학성능을 얻어내었다. 극한의 어드벤처에 대응할 수 있는 모델로 바이크패킹백을 장착하고 외지에서 빠른 라이딩을 할 수 있도록 강인한 휠셋으로 조립된 에어로 카본 그래블 휠셋이다. 통풍실험결과 40과 45mm 타이어를 장착한 다른 고가의 에어로 그래블 휠셋들과 비교하여 2위를 차지하였으며 드래그와 질량을 모두 감안할 경우 전체적으로 가장 빠른 성능을 발휘하였다. 특허등록된 Hunt Limitless Width Aero 구조 적용으로 폭넓은 측풍대응폭을 가진 개별적인 전륜과 후륜 림형상과 림표면을 붙어서 공기흐름이 유지되도록 하는 무뎌진 spoke bed를 얻을 수 있었다. 이러한 기술적용으로 내구성과 거친 노면에서의 찍힘에 의한 펑크를 줄요주는 더 넓은 내부림폭과 강화된 림측면을 확보하면서도 기존 전통적인 에어로 림대비 의미있는 감량을 얻을 수 있었다. 

FEATURES

• Limitless Technology | 림측면의 몰딩채널부위에 저밀도의 구조화된 폴리머 조각을 넣고 그 위에 카본층을 몰딩하는 HUNT의 특허제조과정이다. 이로 인해 질량은 최소화하면서 추가적인 림폭을 확보할 수 있게 된다. 더 넓어진 림폭과 더 무뎌진 spoke bed로 인해서 더 넓은 각도의 측풍에서 공기역학성능을 증가시킬 수 있다. 즉, 보다 예측가능한 공기흐름과 동일한 각도로 공기흐름이 분리되지 않아 결과적으로 무게 증가를 최소화하면서 빠르고 매우 안정적인 림형상을 얻을 수 있다. 
• Durability I 산업표준 ISO 테스트 기준을 넘어서는 새로운 그래블 휠셋 테스트 기준들로 HUNT 엔지니어팀에 의해 디자인되고 테스트되었다. 또한 넓은 4.5mm bead hook 두께로 낮은 공기압에서 승차감을 최대화하고 구름저항을 최소화하면서 찍힘에 의한 펑크 가능성을 낮춰준다. 
• H_Ratchet 48T DBL Rear Hub I 2개의 라쳇링을 가진 H_Ratchet double-sided system은 48t ratchet ring으로 7.5˚라는 낮은 체결각도를 가진다. Freehub body는 silica ceramic 코팅된 H_CERAMIK이 적용되어 표면 내구성을 증강하여 카세트로부터 상처가 나지 않도록 막아준다.
• Front and Rear Specific Design I 포괄적인 CFD modeling과 wind tunnel 검증을 통해서 전륜과 후륜 각각의 독자적인 림형상을 도출하여 무게를 최소화하면서도 공기역학성능을 최대화하였다. 더 넓은 프론트 림형상(외폭 36mm / 내폭 27mm)으로 자전거 전방엣지에서의 최적화된 공기접촉을 이끌어내서 드래그를 줄이고 측풍에서도 예측가능한 핸들링을 제공한다. 전륜의 증가한 내부폭은 보다 오픈된 타이어 형상으로 접지력과 코너링 성능을 향상시킨다.후륜은 보다 난기류를 겪게되는데 외폭 35mm과 내폭 26mm의 후륜 림형상을 적용하여 파워 전달력과 무게 감향을 이끌어내었다.   
• Robust Wheel Build I 전륜 24개 스포크와 후륜 28개 스포크 적용으로 훨씬 고른 파워 배분이 휠전체에 되도록 하여 일정 부분의 부담을 줄여주었다. 부식 저항성있는 고강도의 브라스 니플과 더블 실드처리된 카트리지 베어링 적용으로 바이크패킹에 이상적인 부드럽고 신뢰성 높은 저마찰 휠셋으로 조립된다.

• Hubs | 48-tooth의 더블 라쳇은 7.5도의 빠른 체결각도를 가지며 6061 aluminium alloy hub shell에 보다 강한 7075-T6 alloy axle이 적용되었다.

• Tyre Width Optimization I 27/26mm 내부림폭으로 40~45mm 타티어가 최적이다. 장착 가능한 타이어는 35mm에서 60mm까지 가능하다. 후크리스 (TSS)와 호환되는 튜브리스 타이어만을 사용해야 한다. 
• Bearings I 이중 실드 처리된 스테인레스 스틸 카트리지 베어링이 적용된 저마찰의 부드럽고 신뢰성높은 베어링 적용되었다.

The 40 Limitless Gravel Adventure is purpose-built for ultra-endurance athletes tackling the world’s toughest bikepacking races. Developed with HUNT Beyond riders and based on our race-proven aero 40 Limitless rims, it combines low weight, class-leading aerodynamic efficiency, and uncompromising durability. Whether racing across the high passes of Kyrgyzstan or exploring your backyard, this wheelset is engineered to go further, faster. Reinforced with a high-strength hub system and increased spoke count, it’s designed for riders carrying gear deep into remote terrain - where performance, reliability, and resilience are essential.

WIND TUNNEL TEST

The HUNT engineering team invested two years developing the rim profiles for the 40 Limitless Gravel Aero project, with the goal of maximizing aerodynamic efficiency while reducing overall system weight and optimising rim geometries for wider modern gravel tyres. This adventure-ready variation combines the aero benefits of the rim system with a robust wheel build for fast riding in remote terrain with bikepacking bags. Wind tunnel testing shows the 40 Limitless Gravel Aero rims deliver the second-lowest aerodynamic drag among leading aero gravel wheels with both 40mm and 45mm tyres, and offers the fastest overall system performance when aerodynamic drag and system mass are considered together. Patented Limitless Width Aero construction enables distinct front and rear rim profiles with wide cross-sections and a truncated (blunted) spoke bed to help maintain attached airflow. This approach provides meaningful weight savings compared to traditional aero rims, while wider internal widths and reinforced rim walls improve durability and resistance to pinch flats on rough terrain. Full wind tunnel testing methodology, datasets, and competitor comparisons are available in the research white paper.

FEATURES

• Limitless Technology | HUNT-patented manufacturing process which utilizes a strip of low-density structural polymer inserted in a molded channel within the rim sidewall with carbon molded over it, allowing for extra width while minimizing material mass. HUNT-patented Limitless Width Aero manufacturing process allows for a wider external rim shape while minimizing material mass, utilizing a strip of low-density structural polymer inserted in a molded channel within the rim sidewall with carbon molded over it. The wider shape and the more blunted the spoke bed increases aerodynamic performance across a wider range of yaw angles (as the airflow is predictable and does not separate to the same degree), resulting in fast, ultra-stable rim shapes without the weight penalty.
• Durability I The in-house engineering team have designed and tested against new gravel wheel protocols which go beyond industry-standard ISO testing. Combining this with a broad 4.5mm bead hook thickness reduces the likelihood of pinch flats while maximising your comfort and rolling resistance when running low tyre pressures.
• H_Ratchet 48T DBL Rear Hub I Featuring HUNT’s H_Ratchet double-sided system (with two floating ratchet rings), with a 48t ratchet ring resulting in just 7.5˚ engagement. Durability is a theme for HUNT, and so all our freehub bodies have a H_CERAMIK coating, a process similar to anodization but with silica ceramic to increase density and hardness of the surface layer to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.
• Front and Rear Specific Design I Through extensive testing with CFD modeling and wind tunnel validation, our engineering team have developed front and rear specific profiles that maximize aero benefit across the bike system while minimizing material mass. The wider front rim profile (36mm wide ext/27mm wide int) provides an optimized aero interface at the leading edge of the bike, reducing drag and offering predictable handling in crosswinds. The increased internal rim width on the front design provides improved traction and cornering performance due to the more open tyre profile. The rear of the bike encounters more turbulent air flow, allowing for the engineering team to optimize the rear rim profile (35mm wide ext/26mm wide int) for power delivery and weight savings.  
• Robust Wheel Build I A 24 spoke count front and 28 on the rear ensures a more even force distribution across the wheel, reducing strain on individual components. Hand-built with corrosion-resistant, high-strength brass nipples, double sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service with low friction creating a wheelset ideal for bikepacking setup.

ETRTO-compatible for tyre sizes 35mm and 60mm and tubeless-ready. Only use tyres suitable for hookless (TSS) rims. If unsure, please contact the tyre manufacturer. Leading brands, including Schwalbe, Continental and Vittoria, have many tyres suitable for hookless TSS rims. 
• Bearings I Double sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service with low friction.
