2025년 9월 Scope에서 새롭게 발매한 R-Series는 수상경력을 가진 Artech series의 혁신적인 공학적 DNA를 적용하여 새롭게 개뱔되어 유사등급에서 최고의 공기역학성능 (the best in class aerodynamics), 레이스에 보다 적합한 무게 감량, 지속가능한 내구성을 실현하였다. 

CHRATERISTICS:

Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics(AEA 2.0): 알고리듬을 통한 최적의 에어로 성능을 도출했던 Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics (AEA) technology를 통해 개발된 Artech 림형상이 새롭게 업그레이드되어 적용되었다. 2017년 University of Technology Delft (aerospace engineering)와 협업하여 첫번째 적용된 AEA algorithm의 경우 2D 기반으로 림과 타이어의 상호영향을 최적화하는 것을 포함하였는데 공기역학 벤치마킹을 새롭게 정의하기 위해서 3D 기반으로 전체 휠셋의 촤적화를 포함하였다. 신규 R-series경우  영국 Silverstone Sports Engineering wind tunne에서 성능검증을 위해서 폭넓은 테스트를 거쳤으며 동시에 최신 경쟁휠셋들과 성능비교 테스트도 가졌다. 검증된 Artech series의 림형상을 채용하였기에 대등한 수준의 공기역학성능을 발휘할 것이라고 기대하였는데 테스트 결과 Artech series에만 적용되는 특허등록된 Aeroscales surface가 10도 이상과 이하 모든 yaw angles에서 상당한 드래그 감소효과를 보인다는 것을 입증하였다.  

New Lightweight R-Series Hub: 공기역학의 개선을 넘어서 신규 R-Series를 통해 얻어자했던 목적중 하나는 상당한 수준의 무게 감량이였다. 이를 위해 Artech hub를 연구하였고 동일한 디자인 원칙들을 적용하였다. 그 결과 무게 감량뿐 아니라 더 강하고(stiffer) 더 나은 내구성을 지니게 되었다. 이 경량의 CNC 가공된 R-Series hub는 스코프의 검증된 Diamond Ratchet engagement system을 이어서 적용하여 즉각적인 파워 전달과 장시간의 신뢰성을 보여준다. 새롭게 기계적인 labyrinth seal이 적용되어 불순물이 허브내부로 들어오는 것을 효과적으로 막아주어 내구성 향상에도 기여한다. 추가로 Sapim CX-Ray bladed T-head spoke를 적용하여 스포크의 뒤틀림을 방지하여 지속적인 성능을 보장한다. 다른 스코프 허브세트와 동일하게 신규 R-Series hub도 Shimano HG / Micro Spline, SRAM XD(R), Campagnolo / N3W 현존하는 모든 허브바디와 호환이 된다.

CX-Ray Steel Spokes and Internal Nipples: Sapim CX-Ray T-head aero spoke적용으로 뒤틀림을 방지하여 보다 강인하고 측면충격에 덜 민감하며 외부에서 보이지않는 내부 리플을 적용하여 (internal nipples) 보다 깔끔한 외양과 함께 미세한 공기역학적인 이득을 제공한다. 

Diamond Ratchet: 휠의 중심적인 부품은 허브이다. 따라서 허브의 내구성은 휠의 수명에 가장 중요한 요소이다. 신규 Race series 허브는 Diamond Ratchet engagement system이 적용되어 즉각적인 체결과 함께 향상된 내구성을 발휘하며 상당한 무게 감소로 제공한다. 

Local Reinforcement: 모든 스코프 휠셋에 기본적으로 적용되는 기술인 Local Reinforcement carbon technology는 림 내부 스포크 홀 주변에 추가적인 카본층을 보강하고 홀 주변이 아닌 곳은 카본층을 적게 적용하여 상당한 무게 감량과 함께 스포크 홀 주변의 강성을 향상시켜준다.

Scope Tubeless System(STS®): 림형상과 동일하게 신규 R-Series의 타이어 림베드 형상(tire bed profile)도 Artech Series에서 도입하여 손쉬운 타이어 장착, 직접적인 공기주입, 오래 지속되는 공기압 그리고 튜브리스를 포함한 모든 타이어와의 호환성을 제공한다. 또한 공기역학, 구름저항 그리고 안전성간의 균형을 제공해준다. 스코프는 hooked tire bed가 모든 클린처와 튜브리스 타이어와의 호환성을 보장하는데 필수적이라고 생각하여  모든 R-Series Road, All-Road, Triathlon 휠셋에 hooked design을 적용하였다. 유일하게 R-Series Gravel wheelset경우 hookless rim profile을 적용하였는데 이는 오프로드 타이어들에 최적화된 휠셋으로 더 낮은 공기압을 적용하기 때문에 예외적으로 hookless rim profile을 적용하였다.

3년의 보증 기간과 함께 lifetime crash replacement를 제공한다. 이 교체 서비스는 Scope Wheelset의 첫 구매자가 아니여도 동일하게 적용된다. crash replacement program은 충돌 사고 발생으로 파손된 제품을 특별 할인가에 새로운 제품으로 교환해주는 것으로 하나의 휠에 배송비와 세금을 제외하고 € 450에 교환하게 된다. 동일한 제품이 없을 경우 대등한 제품으로 교환된다. 교환에 대한 승인권은 Scope 네덜란드 본사에 있다.

Crash replacement 요청이 승인이 나면 최종 교환을 위해서 Scope service center로 교환 휠셋이 보내진다. 교환 휠셋은 3년 보증이 적용되지 않는다. 빠르고 바른 교환 서비스를 위해서 tires, tubes, rim tape, cassettes, skewers, computer magnets 등 모든 부착물은 제거하여 보내야 한다.

Scope launches their new R-Series, derived from the award-winning Artech series. Build from the same engineering DNA, the R-Series brings revolutionary technology to a broader stage, delivering best in class aerodynamics, at a race ready weight, and durability designed to last.

CHRATERISTICS:

Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics(AEA 2.0): The shape of the Artech rims is defined by the Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics (AEA) technology. This algorithm optimizes the most aerodynamic rim-profile guaranteeing optimal aerodynamic performance. The initial AEA algorithm, developed in 2017 in collaboration with the University of Technology Delft (aerospace engineering), was 2D-based and included the interaction effect of the rim and tire in the optimization. To redefine the benchmark of aerodynamics, Scope evolved their algorithm by making it 3D based including the complete bike with components into the optimization. The new R-series wheels have extensively been tested in the Silverstone Sports Engineering wind tunnel to validate the performance, and at the same time benchmark it against the latest competitors. Since the new R-Series adopts the proven rim profiles of the Artech series, we anticipated a comparable level of aerodynamic performance. Testing confirmed that the patented Aeroscales surface (exclusively featured on the Artech series ) delivers a significant reduction in drag at yaw angles both above and below 10 degrees.

New R-Series Hub: Beyond aerodynamic gains, a key objective for the new R-Series was a significant reduction in weight. To achieve this, we studied the Artech hubs and applied the same design principles to the new R-Series hub, without compromising the design brief. The result is a hub set that is not only lighter, but also stiffer and more durable. The lightweight, CNC-machined R-Series hubs feature Scope’s proven Diamond Ratchet engagement system for instant power transfer and long-term reliability. A mechanical labyrinth seal effectively blocks dirt from entering the hub, further increasing durability. In addition, the hubs are engineered for bladed T-head spokes, preventing spoke twist and ensuring consistent performance. The new R-series hubs feature a mechanical labyrinth system, effectively blocking dirt from entering and increasing long-term durability.

CX-Ray Steel Spokes and Internal Nipples: The Sapim CX-Ray T-head aero spokes make the new R-Series robust and less sensitive to side impacts, a crucial advantage in the chaotic conditions of for example spring classics. Meanwhile, internal nipples are hidden inside the rim, ensuring a clean aesthetic while also providing a subtle aerodynamic gain.

Diamond Ratchet: The hub is the central part of your bike’s wheels. Durability of the hub is a key factor for the longevity of your wheel. The hubs of the Race series wheels are equipped with our Diamond Ratchet engagement system. This system ensures direct engagement and an improved durability.  Besides that, it significantly reduces the weight.

Local Reinforcement: A known technology today at all Scope wheels, our Local Reinforcement carbon technology, where we increase the number of carbon layers around the spoke holes on the inside of the rim. This way we significantly reduce the weight, while preserving the strength and stiffness

Scope Tubeless System(STS®): Just like the rim profile, the tire bed profile of the R-Series is adopted from the Artech. This guarantees easy tire mounting, direct inflation, long-lasting air retention, and full compatibility with all (tubeless) tires, while offering the ideal balance between aerodynamics, rolling resistance, and safety. At Scope, we believe a hooked tire bed is essential to ensure compatibility with all clincher and tubeless tires. That’s why all R-Series Road, All-Road, and Triathlon wheels feature a hooked design. The only exception is the R-Series Gravel wheelset, which uses a hookless rim profile optimized for dedicated off-road tires, where lower tire pressures are standard.
