CONCEPT

알루미늄 MASON Definition3는 다양한 노면에서 빠르고 멀리 달릴 수 있는 모델인데 (Fast Far bicycle) 그 모델을 업데이트한 새로운 Definition Integrale 모델은 짧아진 체인스테이, 새로운 포크, 풀인터널 케이블링과 전동구동계에 최적화되어 라이딩 팩을 선도할 수 있도록 개발되었다. 이러한 변화는 이미 티타늄 MASON Aspect 모델에서 선보였던 것들이며 초도 50대의 Definition Integrale Launch Edition frame의 경우 개별 제조넘버와 특별한 데칼 디테일링 그리고 브라스 헤드뱃지로 한정 공급되며 양산 모델은 텅스텐 마감 헤드 뱃지로 제공되며 개별 제조넘버와 출시 에디션 데칼은 제공되지 않는다.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY

• DEDA AR FORK: 이태리 Deda Elementi와 협업하여 MASON Aspect Integrale와 Definition Integrale의 일체형 배선에 최적화를 위해 개발된 카본 포크로 MASON x Deda AR fork는 성능과 실용성의 균형을 확보하였으며 협업을 통해서 메이슨 테이퍼드 헤드튜브와 호환되며 36mm 타이어와 풀 머드가드를 위한 클리어런스를 확보하도록 하였다. 포크 측면의 아일렛과 브레이크 호스와 다이나모 전선을 위한 내부 배선도 적용하였다. 
• INTEGRATED ROUTING: MASON Aspect Integrale와 Definition Integrale를 위해서 특별히 개발한 Deda AR carbon fork 덕분에 표준 테이퍼드 헤드튜브와 헤드셋을 사용하고도 프레임 내부로 브레이크 호스들을 완벽하게 통합할 수 있게 되었다. 이것은 Deda AR carbon fork 시스템은 많은 표준 스템과 핸들바들과 호환하여 사용하면서 호스의 내부 통합 배선이 가능하다는 말이다. Aspect Integrale와 Definition Integrale은 SRAM AXS, Shimano Di2, Campgnolo EPS electronic shifting과 호환된다.
• INTEGRATED HEADSET: 상단 41.8ø, 하단 51.8ø의 taper head tube를 위한 integrated headset으로 베어링은 모두 angular contact bearings(ACB)이다. Head-tube seat angle은 45º이다. 헤드셋은 헤드튜브의 tapered seat에 장착되며 포크 스티어러 내부에 있는 headset tensioner로 조여진다. 헤드셋을 조여지면 테이퍼 중앙에 자리하게 하며 유격이 없도록 해준다. 더 크고 더 낮은 베어링으로 테이퍼드 스티어러와 더 큰 크라운 적용이 가능하여 보다 예리한 핸들링과 브레이킹할 때 흔들림을 줄여줍니다. 
• UDH EQUIPPED: 가 장착되어 자전거 산업 전반에 걸쳐 행어의 형상과 고정 위치를 표준화하는 SRAM이 개발한 'UDH' [Universal Derailleur Hanger]이 장착되어 모든 메이저 자전거 브랜드의 모든 현대적인 리어 드레일러들과 호환이 된다. 또한 모든 SRAM 'T-Type/Transmission' rear mech model과 UDH 표준에 호환되도록 개발되는 향후 출시할 rear mechs과 gearing system과도 호환된다.
• DEDACCIAI TUBING: 이태리 튜빙 전문업체인 데다치아이 7000 시리즈 알루미늄 합금 커스텀 형상의 트리플 버티드 튜빙을 직접 손으로 선택하여 tig 용접을 통해 아름답고 부드러운 용접 비드들을 이태리 수제 자전거 장인의 손으로 만들어 주요 용접부위에 얇아지거나 약해지는 곳이 없다. 본 프레임은 완벽한 열처리 과정과 스트레스 완화 과정을 용접후 거친다. 
• OPTIMIZED SEAT TUBE SIZE: 작은 사이즈인 48에서 58cm 프레임의 경우 31.8mm seat tube와 27.2mm seatpost를 적용하여 가볍고 신장이 작은 라이더들이 크고 딱딱한 시트포스트를 사용하지 않게 하였으며 작은 직경의 시트포스트로 노면의 진동을 흡수하여 장거리 라이딩을 보다 편안하게 할 수 있도록 해준다. 큰 사이즈인 60과 62cm 프레임의 경우 대구경 34.9mm seat tube와 31.6mm seatpost를 적용하여 34.9mm 시트튜브로 중심 안정성(core-stability)를 더했으며 보다 강한 파워를 가진 라이더들을 위해 파워 전단력을 향상시킬 수 있다.  대구경 31.6mm 시트포스트로 보다 나은 지지력을 제공한다. 
• DEDICATED DYNAMO ROUTING: 다이나모 라이트와 충전시스템을 설치하는 경우가 많기에 탑튜브에 다이나모 케이블 라우팅 포트를 설치하였다. 이로 인해 보다 편리하게 케이블을 전후 라이팅사이로 연결할 수 있고 시트크램프 또는 드롭아웃 등의 다른 마운팅 포인트를 확보할 수 있게 된다. 
• THREADED BOTTOM BRACKETS: 고품질 스테인레스 스틸 소재의 68mm BSA threaded BB 적용하여 더 뛰어난 내구성과 소음방지 그리고 표준툴을 사용한 손쉬운 정비성을 제공한다. 적절하게 그리스로 관리하면 금속 BB shell과 이상적인 인터페이스라고 할 수 있다. 
• BOATTAIL STAYS: 체인스테이에 적용된 MASON만의 독특한 custom bend는 디스크 로터와 캘리퍼를 장착할 공간을 제공하면서 거친 노면에서의 체인 떨림 (chain-slap)을 방지하여 부드러운 라이딩이 가능하게 해준다.

• INTERNAL ROUTING: 케이블, 브레이크 호스, electronic shift control wire는 Mason 'MultiPort' adaptable inserts의 가이드를 받아 프레임 안으로 지나갑니다. 교체가능한 Internal routing은 케이블 등이 더러워지는 것을 방지하고 사고로 인한 손상을 막아주며 세척을 용이하게 해주며 정리된 깔끔한 자전거로 만들어줍니다. 다양한 변속과 브레이킹 세팅을 손쉽게 할 수 있도록 해줍니다. 
• THRUBB: 메이슨만의 독특한 'ThruBB'는 50mmØ 대구경으로 down-tube 하단과 용접이 가능한 큰 영역을 제공하며 68mm 폭의 threaded seat으로 연결됩니다. BB 베어링 주변에 많은 공간을 가질 수 있어 케이블과 브레이크 호스가 BB내 하부를 지나 chain stay와 브레이크와 뒷변속기쪽으로 갈 수 있게 해줍니다. 주의 사항: 이 BB shell design은 대부분의 시마노 또는 SRAM DUB처럼 24mm 또는 30mm 'sleeved' axle을 가진 BB을 사용하는 것을 요구합니다. 왜냐하면 케이블과 호스가 shell을 지나 axle 하단으로 지나기 때문입니다. Sleeve가 없는 BB는 사용하면 안 됩니다!
• FLATMOUNT BRAKE CALIPERS: Flat mount disc-brake calliper는 더 가볍고 깔끔하고 랙과 머드가드를 위한 dropout내에 보다 많은 공간을 제공합니다. Dropout에 장착되기에 더 가볍고 보다 편안한 seat-stay 적용이 가능합니다. 전방에서는 포크에 직접 장착되기에 보다 깔끔한 외형을 가집니다.
• 8 FRAME SIZES: 소규모 브랜드에서 8가지 프레임 사이즈 옵션을 제공하는 것은 흔한 일이 아니다. 폭넓은 사이즈 제공이 최적화된 피팅으로 장거리 라이딩의 편안함과 효율성을 제공한다는 점을 확신하였기에 48cm에서62cm 사이즈까지 제공하기로 하였다. 
• SWITCH LEVER: 전륜과 후륜에 고품질의 SwitchLever Thru-Axle을 적용하여 제거가능한 레버로 상황에 다라서 레버를 액슬에 장착하거나 분리하여 보관할 수 있다. 
• EN TESTED: 프레임과 포크는 극심한 강도와 피도록 실험을 거쳐 EN 규정을 모두 충족하며 10만번 이상의 밀고 당기고 떨어뜨리고 뒤트는 실험을 어떠한 데이미도 없이 통과하였다. 

ESSENTIAL DIMENSIONS

• ROTOR SIZE: Ø140 또는 Ø160mm rotor를 장착할 수 있으며 만약 Shimano IceTech 로터를 사용한다면 Ø140mm 로터를 앞뒤로 사용하는 것도 좋다. 키가 큰 라이더 또는 긴 다운힐을 위해서는 Ø160 로터 사용을 시마노에서는 권장하며 SRAM에서는 앞뒤로 Ø160mm 장착을 추천한다. 케이블 브레이크를 사용하는 경우 전륜에는 Ø160mm 로터 사용을 추천한다. 후륜에는 160mm 로터가 최대치이다. 
• CALIPER TYPE: 전후 모두 flat-mount 캘리퍼를 장착하며 시마노 시스템 도는 TRP Spyre같은 기계식 경우에도 문제없이 장착이 가능하다. TRP HyRd같은 몇몇 부피가 있는 캘리퍼의 경우 작은 사이즈의 프레임에서 호환 문제가 있을 수 있다.

CONCEPT

The aluminium MASON Definition is our Fast Far bicycle for multi-surface road riding. Improved and updated to keep it ahead of the pack, the new Definition Integrale offers an alternative to the Definition3, with shortened chainstays, a new fork, and fully integrated routing that conceals cables and hoses within the cockpit of your bicycle. Optimised for electronic groupsets, our approach to integration has already transformed the titanium MASON Aspect. Now it’s time for the aluminium Definition to offer this streamlined, focussed Integrale option.

50 Definition Integrale Launch Edition frames will be finished as shown, with individual numbering, special Launch Edition detailing and brass-finish head badge. Production models will feature a tungsten-finish headbadge and will not have individual numbers or Launch Edition decals.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY

• DEDA AR FORK: Working with Deda Elementi in Italy, we have helped develop a carbon fork to perfectly match the integrated routing of the Aspect Integrale and Definition Integrale. This new MASON x Deda AR fork has the balance of performance and practicality to make it worthy of a MASON frame. The co-design means it is a perfect match for our Aspect Integrale and Definition Integrale, working with our taper head tube and with clearance for 36mm tyres and full mudguards, including eyelets for stays and internal routing for brake hose and dynamo wire.
• INTEGRATED ROUTING: For the Aspect Integrale and Definition Integrale, we use the specially developed Deda AR carbon fork. This allows for sleek full integration of the brake hoses within the frame, using the standard taper head tube and headset. This system works with many standard stem and handlebar options. The Aspect Integrale and Definition Integrale is compatible with AXS, Di2 or EPS electronic shifting.
• INTEGRATED HEADSET: Integrated, 41.8ø upper, 51.8ø lower, for taper head tube. Both bearings are ‘ACB’, meaning ‘Angular Contact Bearings’. The head-tube seat angle is 45º. The headset drops into a tapered seat in the head tube and is tensioned using a headset tensioner within the fork steerer. Tensioning the headset centres it on the taper and prevents any play. The larger lower bearing allows a tapered steerer and larger crown. This gives sharper response, helps reduce flex under braking and spreads bearing load.
• DEDACCIAI TUBING: The entire tubeset was developed in conjunction with Italian, metal tubing gurus Dedacciai. The Definition is constructed from Triple Butted, Hand Selected, custom shaped, 7000 series, Dedacciai Alu tubes and tig welded by hand with beautiful Smooth weld beads. The welds require no after sanding or finishing, so there is no thinning and weakening of the tubes at crucial areas. The frame is fully heat treated, stress relieved and anti-corrosion treated after welding.
• THREADED BOTTOM BRACKETS: The ISO frames use high quality stainless steel 73mm, BSA, threaded BB’s. This gives greater durability and creak-free reliability over many miles. The threaded BB is easier to service using standard tools and you are more likely to find a replacement when adventuring far from home. A properly lubricated, threaded BB is also an ideal interface with a metal BB shell.
• UDH EQUIPPED: This frame is equipped with the 'UDH' [Universal Derailleur Hanger]. The 'Universal Hanger' standardises the shape and fixed position of the hanger across the industry and is compatible with all modern rear mech types from all major brands. Our UDH dropouts are compatible with all SRAM 'T-Type/Transmission' rear mech models, and any future rear mechs and gearing systems that are designed to work with the UDH standard.
• DEDICATED DYNAMO ROUTING: We often fit modern dynamo lighting and charging systems to our builds, so we have added dedicated dynamo cable routing ports to the top tube, using the space freed up by refining the cable routing. This important feature means that the cable is more easily routed between front and rear lights and gives alternative mounting points, either at the seatclamp or dropout, depending on rack and bag setup and requirements.
• THRU-BB: 'Thru-BB' is unique to MASON aluminium frames. The large 56mmØ presents a large weld area to the base of the down tube and then steps down to the 68mm [road/gravel] & 73mm [MTB] width threaded seats. This step-down provides plenty of space around the outside of the bottom-bracket bearings to allow the control cables and hose to pass through on the way to the chain stays/seat tube and out to the brake, rear mech, dropper-post etc. IMPORTANT: This BB shell design requires the use of a bottom bracket with a 24mm or 30mm 'sleeved' axle like most Shimano or SRAM DUB, because the hose/cables/control wires run through the shell and under the axle. DO NOT use a bottom bracket type without a sleeve. Campagnolo sleeves are available as well. Please contact us if you would like advice on compatible cranksets/BB types.
• MULTIPORT: Unique to MASON. Our frames use an adaptable, internal cable routing system. Developed by us to allow your Mason frame to be used with a combination of control systems and adapt and evolve with your requirements and riding styles. We are the first to bring this type of system to a performance steel frame. Interchangeable alloy parts allow five options: 1. Full cable outer. 2. Hydraulic Hose. 3. Split outer. 4. Electronic cable [e.g. Shimano Di2]. 5. Blank.
• BOATTAIL STAYS: Unique to MASON. A custom bend giving disc-rotor and calliper clearance, helping to avoid chain-slap on the rough stuff and allowing a little compliance to help smooth the ride.
• OPTIMIZED SEAT TUBE SIZE: Our smaller frames sizes, from 48 to 58cm use a 31.8mm seat tube and 27.2mm seatpost. Smaller lighter riders don't require large, stiff seatposts and the smaller diameter post and tube help dial out some road-buzz and add long distance comfort. The larger frame sizes - 60 and 62cm, use oversize 34.9mm seat tubes and 31.6mm seatposts. The larger diameter seat tube adds 'core-stability' to the larger frames and enhances power transfer for larger more powerful riders, with the larger 31.6mm post adding more support.
• DISC BRAKES: This frame is designed for disc brakes. They work consistently in all conditions especially when coupled with modern disc-specific wheels and high-volume tyres. You’ll find yourself riding in a more confident, controlled, fluid and ultimately more efficient way.
• FLATMOUNT BRAKE CALIPERS: Flat mount disc-brake callipers are lighter, neater, and open up more space within the dropout area for racks and ‘guards. The calliper is mounted to the dropout, allowing us to use a lighter, more comfortable seat-stay.  Up front, the calliper is mounted directly to the fork [via the brake manufacturers adaptor] and offers a cleaner and more minimalist appearance and also provides a compact packaging of the brake caliper.
• SWITCH LEVER: This model uses SwitchLever Thru-Axles front and rear. This high quality axle system features a removable lever to be used with both axles. Store the lever in the front axle for quick use or remove completely for extra security and a clean, low-profile look.
• 8 FRAME SIZES: 8 frame size options are unusual for a small bicycle company like ours. We believe that a large size range helps to guarantee an optimised fit, essential for long-distance comfort and efficiency. 48cm through to 62cm, the geometry and clearances vary throughout the size range, meaning that there will be a MASON to fit you perfectly.
• EN TESTED: All our frames and forks complete the brutal strength and fatigue testing to comply fully with EN regulations. They are pushed, pulled, dropped and twisted over 100,000 times and must survive without any damage before they can pass.

ESSENTIAL DIMENSIONS

• ROTOR SIZE: The fork can take a Ø140 or Ø160mm rotor [using adaptor], if you are using Shimano IceTech rotors then Ø140mm rotors either end are fine in normal use, although Shimano recommend Ø160 both ends for larger riders or extended long descents, especially when loaded. SRAM recommend Ø160mm front/rear. A Ø160mm up front is best if you are using cable braking. 160mm is the maximum recommended diameter for the rear.
• CALIPER TYPE: Frames are fitted with the flat-mount front and flat-mount rear. There are no clearance issues with modern Shimano systems or mechanical systems such as ‘TRP Spyre’. Some bulky systems like the ‘TRP HyRd’ may have compatibility issues on smaller size frames.

• SIZING: This page gives you some guidelines based on rider height, but these are only a starting point for a proper bike fitting. There are of course many other factors to consider when choosing the right size for you and sizing advice will vary depending on your choice of model from the Mason range and the way that you intend to ride it. We're always here to help of course and would always recommend a professional bike fitting and visiting us for a ride on the Mason Cycles riverside gravel/country lanes test-loop if you can.
